El jueves, nuestro quinto día, amaneció regular. Lluvioso y con frío. Un poco rollo pero que se le va a hacer.
Mi hermana hace mucho que quería visitar la Universidad de Columbia que en tantas películas sale. Como no está precisamente en el centro siempre lo hemos dejado por no tener tiempo de sobra para ir hasta allí. Este año dejamos un día para ir hasta allí.
La universidad es bonita pero ir de un lado a otro lloviendo a mares no es forma de verla. Fué llegar allí y ponerse a llover muy fuerte.
Este edificio es la biblioteca de la universidad. Quisimos entrar pero la persona que hay en la seguridad en la entrada nos dijo no muy amablemente que es una universidad privada y que no se puede entrar así como así que si queríamos visitarla teníamos que ir al centro de visitantes (??) y de allí hacer el tour. No sé la verdad porque no ponen carteles con este tema. Fué muy desagradable. Fuimos al centro de visitantes, que yo no sabía que era eso, y nos dijeron que sí que la biblioteca sólo se puede entrar con el tour que sale desde allí. Quedaba una hora para el tour así que no esperamos y nos fuimos. A mi de todas formas ya se me había quitado las ganas de verla por dentro.
Como teníamos que ir en metro de nuevo aprovechamos para ir a Battery Park. Desde aquí salen los ferrys a Staten Island (es gratuito y lo hicimos la última vez que estuvimos en Nueva York) y es de donde se ve la Estatua de la Libertad.
Abajo el edificio que están haciendo nuevo donde estaban las Torres Gemelas.
El Financial Center con el puerto deportivo que tiene delante. Es muy bonito entrar donde está la cúpula de cristal.
Han hecho dos piscinas enorme en conmemoración a lo del atentado de las torres gemelas.
La última foto que veis es del día después. Era el Flagsday o el día de la bandera. La foto está tomada delante del edifico Rockefeller.
Y esto ha sido más o menos nuestro viaje a Nueva York. Mi primo vino a recogernos el viernes a Nueva York y pasamos con él y su familia el fin de semana en Washington que es donde viven. El viaje ha estado estupendo y nos hemos quedado con muchas ganas de repetirlo.
Our 5th day in New York the first thing we did was visit Columbia University. My sister wanted a long time ago to visit it but the other times we have been to Newy York we never seemed to find the time to go and visit it. This time we made an effort and go there. The thing was that when we arrived there it was raining a lot and we had to take shelter in one of the main buildings and wait a bit. We tried to go into the Library (big building you can see in one of the pictures) but we were reminded (not very nicely I must add) that Columbia Univerity is a private University and one cannot walk around like that. If we wanted to visit the library we had to go to the "visitor center" (??) and go with the tour. I just don't know why they don't put a warning outside the building with this information so we could avoid this. It was really unpleasant. We went to the visitor's center and were told that for the next tour we had to wait for an hour. We left and the truth is that I didn't feel like visiting the library again.
After that we took the underground and wen't all the way down to Battery Park. There we walked around, took some pictures, visited the Financial Center and the memorial they had built were the twin towers used to be.
Last picture is from Friday and it was Flagsday or something like that, and that was why there were so many USA flags around the Rockefeller Center.
My cousin came to pick us and we stayed with him and his family for the weekend in Washington that is where they lived.
We have enjoyed this trip a lot and we wouldn't mind repeting it any time.
